On November 17th 1998, Draupadi Patil, a local farmer, discovered a copper box while ploughing her fields. The box contained the Ganesha idol, which by some estimates has a mask of pure gold and weighs over 12 kg. A temple was built around this Suvarna Ganesha or the Ganesha of Gold.
